Velvet Garage is a great new cafe that has opened up in an old warehouse on Appleby St near(ish) to St Peters train station.
The vibe at the Velvet Garage is very relaxed with plenty of space between chairs and couches to sit in, it is a good place to go for a relaxing break with a newspaper. The coffee is excellent from the Little Marionette roasters.
Definitely checkout the graffiti around the cafe and especially at the May Lane art project which is in the lane going from St Peters train station to the cafe. The cafe itself is in the same building is an art studio and a tattoo studio.
Vegan status: a few tasty vegan options for breakfast and lunch. They are not listed as vegan, but all the staff seem to be knowledgable about vegan dietary requirements.
Price range: between $12 and $15 for meals.
Recommendations: potato head - kipfler potatoes, olives, peas, onion and garlic confit, poha an indian porridge dish with cashews, curry leaves, fresh coriander and chilli and of course a pot of chai on the side. There is also a range of sweet snacks from the Vegan Tea House.
