Everybody likes french toast, and this is a great recipe to use for a BBQ breakfast, you can do a massive batch of french toast and pears on the hot plate in a few minutes.
Makes enough for four slices of toast.
Whisk together the cornflour, 2 tablespoons brown sugar, oil, soy milk and cinnamon. Pour onto a plate or tray that is big enough to dip the bread in and set aside.
Cut the pears into quarters lengthways and remove the core. Cut each quarter into three lengths.
In a hot frypan add the margarine and pears. Saute the pears on one side until browned, about 30 seconds. Flip the pears over and add the tablespoon of brown sugar and cook for another 30 seconds.
Remove the pears from the pan. If you are doing a larger batch of french toast you may want to put the pears in a warm oven while the toast is cooking.
Clean the frypan and place back on a medium heat. You probably don’t need any oil in the pan, as the oil in the batter is usually enough. Take a slice of the bread and quickly dip in the flour and milk batter on each side (you don’t want it to be soggy). Place in the frypan. Repeat with another slice if you have space.
Cook the toast for about a minute on each side until browned. Repeat for the remaining slices.
Serve with the caramalised pears.
